[Nose Surgery] Concept of Rhinoplasty 3 ( Materials )

Hi readers :-)

I know many people who are interested in rhinoplasty or plan to undergo rhinoplasty wonder the used materials for rhinoplasty.

One of the most frquents ask from those is which material do i have to use.

One of the issues that need to be considered importantly in nasal cosmetic surgery is decideing which material to use in raising the bridge of nose.
It is important to use the materials for the nose that have been proven to induce little reaction of the human body against foreign matter and harmless to human body over prolonged period of time.
Since each material has both advantages and advantages, making decision after having consultation with extensive experiences in accordance with the status of the patients would achieve the optimal results.

[ Implants ]

1. Silicone

Medical silicone used for nasal cosmetic surgery is relatively safe even if they have been inserted into the huma body for prolonged period of time. Silicone does not undergo significant changes in the living body, causes minimal reaction against foreigh matter, and can be shaped into desired form.
However, it has sheathing and may be seen through if inserted immediately below the skin.
Therefore, it must be positioned in the lower portion of the periosteum.
ITEM Clinic mainly uses 'high-soft-silicon (Bistol)' that enables natural presentation in accordance with the shape of the nose and nasal bone.

2. Gore-Tex

Gore-Tex is an artificail compound that was first developed as material used for surgery on valves of the heart of blood vessel, and is currently used not only for nasal surgery but also for paranasal augmentation, surgery of tip of the chin, frontal cheekbone surgery, etc in the domail of cosmetic surgery.
The biggest advantage of Gore-tex is outstanding maintenance of the shape due to adhesion with the surrounding tissues because of the appropriate surface finishing and soft texture. Disadvantages include difficulties in manipulation because of its softness, slightly more difficult in re-surgery and greater sulnerability inflammation and slight lowering of shaprness in comparison to silicone.

3. Sili-Tex

Sili-Tex is an implant that combined the advantages of silicone and Gore-Tex by attaching Gore-Tex onto the silicone implant. Sili-Tex can fully present the advantage of Gore-Tex that is not seen through easily and the advantage of silicone that can maintain clear line of the bridge of the nose.

4. Alloderm

Alloderm is a material that processed the donated derma of human body through special treatment and has the advantage of minimal reaction of the body against foreign substance and softness in comparison to artificail implants.
Alloderm is not seen through easily and with natural shaping.
Therefore it is uses mainly at the tip of the noe with thin skin layer.

5. Medpore

It is an implant that is frequently referred to as artigicial bone, and is uses widely in paranasal augmentation, tip of the chin surgery and chin cosmetic surgery.
Although it can be used to erect columella in nasal cosmetic surgery since this material is harder than other implants, it is a material that requires detailed attention of highly experienced specialist.

Of course, every materials have their pros and cons.
That's why you'd better make a decision which material is more suitable for you with specialist.
